Portland Pedestrian

Wayfinding System

Free-standing pylons integrating directional messages and

heads-up maps are the design
element for Portland’s pedestrian
wayfinding system. The grade-
level pylons were developed in
response to Portland’s low tree
cover. Each pylon has one
“heads-up” area map and one
heads-up diagrammatic map of
entire central Portland. The
system was completed and inau- gurated in February 2007.
