Electoral Inequity

It is no mystery to many people how electoral votes are assigned to the states or how that results in a distortion of electoral power favoring the voters in states with smaller population. However, we suspect that few truly understand the extent of this distortion.
Geography distorts the clarity of information. Our maps are not an attempt to suggest regions; rather, they are a way of creating shapes that will stay in a relatively constant position within a group, and which can then be easily located, identified, and compared. The overall rectangle is always the same, representing 538 electoral votes; the size of each state is proportional to that total. Instead of a fixed numerical grid we have a fluid relative grid in which the area is the information. This first map shows the way electoral votes are currently allocated.
